"Where Balance is Power"
Individual Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy takes a medication-free approach to mental wellness and serves as the foundation of mental health treatment.
Couples Therapy
Couples who want to work on their relationship and their own roles in that relationship can benefit from couples therapy.
Family Therapy
Family means many things to many different people. As such, family therapy takes many forms. Divorced co-parents may want family therapy or an extended family of multiple generations may benefit.
Group Therapy
Group therapy helps individuals with a wide range of issues. A therapist may focus a session on a private group of clients or may have a more open session for anyone who shares a disorder or life event with the group.
My name is Velma Penermon Stevens. I am a licensed clinical social worker. Originally from Miami, Florida. I am a proud graduate of the magnificent Florida A & M and Florida State Universities where I received both my professional degrees in Social Work, a Bachelor's, and a Master's Degree. I have over 26 years of experience in this field. In addition to the Pastoral Care experience for 8 years. The majority of that is within the non-profit sector, where I saw firsthand the need for specialized counseling and therapy services.
I know how living situations, health status, and even zip codes can impact a person’s mental health. I would like to help with breaking barriers, breaking negative cycles, and breaking through the difficult times that challenge a person’s sense of wellness. My entire professional career has been dedicated to empowering those who have felt disenfranchised and unheard while helping them to find their voice. I offer a wide variety of compassionate and judgment-free therapeutic approaches to mental health counseling. My specialties include depression, substance use/abuse, anxiety, grief & loss, domestic violence, caregiver support, and marriage/family/relationship issues.
My treatment modalities entail an individual treatment plan just for you. Among, the modalities are crisis intervention, solution-focused therapy, storytelling, narrative therapy, strengths-based, and family systems.
I believe that everyone is capable of change. I believe that balance in one's life is achievable and obtainable. I believe this is achievable when people have the right conditions under which they can thrive and become their true selves.

My synergistic approach is a tool chest that includes various techniques, treatment modalities and homework with your specific needs in mind. I offer a judgement free zone to explore and discuss the issues that cause you concern. When our mind, body, and soul do not communicate , there is a disconnect. This disconnect can cause physical, emotional, and spiritual dysfunction in our lives. This manifestation may look like; changes in appetite, unexplained mood swings, anger outburst, inability to concentrate, anxiety and/or lack of sleep. My approach is a team or collaborative approach with you as we journey back to harmonic wholeness and wellness. I also have several years experience in pastoral care and I can offer Christian based services, if that is your desire.
